DI ASIA Speakers

The 4th D.I. Asia Summit was held as a virtual event for the first time with over 700 participants from Australia, the Philippines, United Kingdom, Thailand and Singapore as well as six speakers from the United States. The theme of the conference is “Charting the Course: New Directions in Differentiated Instruction”.

Prior to 30 November, pre-recorded videos of the keynote sessions were uploaded into the website for watching from 23 November 2020 before coming together on the 30 November and 1 December 2020 for a live broadcast of the Spotlight and Live Q&A Sessions.

Measuring Student Graduate Attributes: Generic Skills and Dispositions

On Wed 8 July 2020, 42 participants from the different universities, polytechnics, and MOE Higher Education attended the seminar on Measuring Graduate Student Attributes: Generic Skills and Dispositions.

Participants spent time identifying challenges that prevent attention being paid to graduate attributes in higher education and possible solutions as well as engaging with the 4Es of employability as a possible model for leading to greater integration of graduate attributes in transformational teaching practices.

The seminar was presented by Professor Gavin Brown from the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Principals Academy Supports the Early Childhood Conference

For the 4th consecutive year, Principals Academy has the privilege to sponsor the keynote speaker for the annual Early Childhood Conference (ECE). This year keynote speaker was Dr Jane Waters, an Associate Professor from the University of Wales. The Conference was held from 13 to 14 September 2019 at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre. The ECE was organised by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA). The sponsoring of the keynote speakers over the years is a testament of our beliefs in the professional development of educators. At the exhibition, Principals Academy showcased preschool workshops for early childhood educators such as the Aeode Music and KidzGym programs curated by Mrs Carmee Lim, founding Director of Principals Academy. 4th Asia-Pacific Educational Assessment Conference 2019

The Principals Academy organised the 4th Asia-Pacific Educational Assessment Conference from 12 to 13 September 2019 at the Resorts World Convention Centre. The theme was "Smarter Assessment with Better Learning." Over 500 educators from Australia, Brunei, Canada, China, France, United Kingdom, United States, Singapore, Thailand and New Zealand attended the 2 days event. Prior to the conference, four of the keynote speakers delivered master classes in Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre. Speakers include Professor Chris Gareis from College of William and Mary, Professor Gavin Brown from the University of Auckland and Professor Esther Care from the Brookings Institution.

Leadership Academy in the Philippines


Over 1200 school leaders from the different regions of the Philippines attended the Leadership Academy that was organised by the Principals Academy over 6 runs starting from August and ending October. Mrs Belinda Charles, Dean of the Principals Academy presented at each of the 2-day workshops imparting her invaluable tacit knowledge on educational leadership to our Philippines counterparts.

Institute on Effective Differentiation

The Institute of Effective Differentiation was presented by Professors Carol Ann Tomlinson, Catherine Brighton and Tonya Moon from the University of Virginia, United States. The Institute was attended by over 200 participants with educators from Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. The event was held at Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre from 26 to 28 June 2019.

Positive Education Workshops

A series of Positive Education workshops were presented by Dr Paula Robinson from the Positive Psychology Institute of Australia from 15 to 17 April 2019. Design Thinking in Action

Over 20 participants attended this high energy workshop presented by Dr Michael Netzley on 11 April 2019 held in Singapore Management University. Participants acquired tools to develop diverse perspectives, build collaborative listening skills, hone storytelling abilities, and experience varied ways to process information that provide deeper user insights. The workshop was jointly organised by SMU Academy and Principals Academy.

Critical Thinking Workshops

Principals Academy organised a series of Critical Thinking workshops for over 200 participants from 4 to 10 April 2019 presented by Dr Gerald Noisch from the renowned Foundation for Critical Thinking which is based in the United States. Topics covered were An Introduction to The Fundamentals of Critical Thinking & the Art of Instruction, Teaching Students to Think Through the Content of the Course or Discipline, Questioning Students and Teaching Students to Question and others.

Inquiry-Based Teaching and Learning

Visit by National Chi Nan University, Taiwan

A delegation from the National Chi Nan University (NCNU) of Taiwan which included the President, Professor Oliver Su and three NCNU professors were hosted to a welcome dinner by the Principals Academy on 29 January 2019. The visit also included meetings with the Taipei Representative Office as well as exploring collaborations between NCNU and Principals Academy.

Havard Project Zero Workshops

Ms Tina Blythe, the Director of Learning and Outreach at Harvard Project Zero was in Singapore from 19 to 28 November 2018 to deliver a series of workshops for schools ranging from Making Student Thinking Visible to Protocols in the Classroom.

Critical Thinking Workshops

A series of workshops were conducted for over 128 primary and secondary school teachers from 19 to 20 November 2018. The presenter was Dr Roy van den Brink-Budgen and the topics range from Critical and Creative Thinking in the Primary Classroom to Critical and Inventive Thinking in the Secondary Classroom.

Item Response Theory Workshop

The two day workshop on Item Response Theory was from 12 to 13 November 2018 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel with over 40 educators in attendance. Dr Martin Walker from Durham University provided practical and intensive introduction to 21st century assessment techniques during the two days.

5th International Conference on Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language

The 5th International Conference on Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language (TLCSL) was organised by the Singapore Centre of Chinese Language and Principals Academy at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre on 12 Sep 2018 (Wed) and 13 Sep 2018 (Thu). School visits were also organised on Wednesday 11 Sep 2018 for our overseas participants. The conference was attended by over 1000 participants from Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States.

D.I. Asia Summit 2018

The 3rd D.I. Asia Summit 2018 was attended by over 200 participants from 6 to 7 September 2018 in Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. Renowned gurus in differentiated instruction include Dr Carol Ann Tomlinson, Dr Richard Cash, Mr Rick Wormeli, Mr Larry Lewin and Dr Kathy Perez.

International Education Conference

The inauguration of International Education Conference organised by Singapore Management University and Principals Academy brought strategies from thought leaders and educators from top performing schools in the world, such as Westminster School (United Kingdom) and African Leadership Academy (South Africa) on how to develop agile and adaptable youth in this technological era.

Beyond the taught curriculum, the conference also explores and celebrates positivity, resilience and empathy that all effective schools must promote to ensure that our students are able to thrive in a complex and volatile world.

Over 200 participants attended the conference in Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel from 25 to 26 July 2018. The conference had the honour of Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry; and Mayor, South West District to launch the Singapore Positive Education Network. 



The Singapore Experience

Principals Academy (PAI) had the privilege of hosting a delegation of 26 principals from New South Wales, Australia from 16 to 20 April 2018. PAI delivered an educational management program known as "The Singapore Experience" which included school visits for the principals over the 5 days. The finale of the program was the graduation dinner held on the night of 20 April 2018 in Shangri-La Hotel. A certificate of accomplishment was presented to each of the participant for completing the program.
