Principals Academy Inc (PAI) currently administers the following tests on a regular basis:
  1. Principals Academy Certification Test
  2. School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans (SPERS-JC/MI)
  3. General Ability Test (GAT)

Principals Academy Certification Test:
PACT - a centralized admission test for international students - is a service initiative by PAI to streamline the application and admission process for international students who wish to seek admission into Singapore public schools.

With the certification test result being recognized by more than 100 participating public schools, we have, since the launch of PACT in 2004, helped more than 20,000 student applicants save time and cost by removing the need for them to take entrance exams administered at the individual institutions. PACT assists our local schools by providing standardized proficiency certification for entry into Primary 2-5, Secondary 1-3 and Junior College. These student applicants comprise mostly of international students from the region, seeking a place in the Singapore Education System.

PACT also serves as a benchmarking tool of our local education standards. We offer PACT to international students, organizations and educational institutions who seek an accurate gauge of their academic ability. Going beyond merely administering tests locally, PAI also conducts PACT tests abroad with our overseas partners to cater to large groups of foreign applicants. On 27 September 2006, PAI signed an agreement with the Korean Digital Herald, leading to the establishment of PACT-Korea.

School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans:
The School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans (SPERS-JC/MI) is a centralised placement exercise conducted at the end of the year for Returning Singaporeans who wish to join the Pre-University 1 level at the beginning of the next academic year.

Similar to the overall function and purpose of PACT, SPERS-JC/MI helps student applicants save time by removing the need for them to take entrance exams administered at the individual institutions. SPERS-JC/MI also assists our local schools by providing a standardized platform for Returning Singaporeans seeking a place in a Junior College / Millennia Institute.

Assisting the Ministry of Education in the administering of the SPERS-JC/MI, PAI provides the planning, logistical and administrative support required to conduct the placement exercise on a yearly basis.

General Ability Test:
In conjunction with leading schools in Singapore, PAI offers a General Ability Test (GAT) that measures the general abilities of students. The GAT is a standardized platform for Psychometric Testing that is meant to provide an objective benchmark of a candidate's intellectual aptitude, regardless of his/her cultural and academic background.

Administered in the attendance of qualified psychologists, the tests use diagrams to measure non-verbal reasoning and problem solving independent of any formal or pre-learnt knowledge. With all the information needed to solve each problem presented within each diagram, candidates do not have to depend on vocabulary, mathematical or reading skills to answer the questions.

GAT provides a multifaceted estimate of students' general intellectual ability and aptitude that can be administered individually or to a large group. It is structured around scalable testing that uses a common scale as a framework, giving teachers and school administrators the flexibility to match test level to ability across different batches of candidates. In addition, percentiles and stanines allow for comparison with a national norm group at different year levels, providing educators with scores for different strands to help identify specific strengths and development needs within their own schools.

Schools and Educational Institution can utilize GAT to streamline psychometric testing procedures for admission exercises, identifying students who could be selected for extension programs. In addition, GAT can be applied to the general student cohort to identify students who may need special diagnostic and remedial attention. This information can be used to set realistic goals and planning effective programs of work and to locate areas of weakness and strength for individuals or within an applicant cohort.

Currently, the GAT test is a perquisite for students applying into certain schools offering the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme.

For any enquiries about implementing GAT in your school / institution, please feel mail us at info@pai.sg
